Some rhododendrons, species or hybrids, show an upright habit. See or see again the file about the shapes. Most people become aware of this fact only a few years after planting when they see that their rhododendron has few leaves near the ground. Then they enquire about the possibilty to prune the top in order to force it to "grow" new branches near the base. That is actually possible but it would be a mistake because, a few years later, the same problem will appear on a greater number of branches. The solution consists in helping it have a trunk so as soon as possible it will be a tree. |
